Halloween is my favorite holiday. OH, and I was accepted into the JKR Gallery show ‘AUTUMN APPARITIONS’ (aka: I’m in a halloween show)

Woohooo! You guys!

This will be my second time having artwork in a gallery show, and I am so excited!

The theme of this show couldn’t be any more perfect for me. You know by now that I’m pretty heavy into the florals and other botanical things (if not, surprise! I’m a botanical artist, and I specialize in birth flowers!) so a Halloween show might not be the first place you’d picture my artwork 🤷‍♀️ But don’t you worry.

I honestly had to narrow down what I wanted to send in!

I’ll show you the contestants:

Hand-painted faux pumpkins were an OBVIOUS contender. I mean, just look at those!

This painting makes me want to sit on a big leather couch watching the sunset through a cabin window. A clear choice for Autumn vibes.

IT’S CORN. (but I don’t have a TikTok account, so it wouldn’t be right of me to send this corn painting in.) (If you don’t understand this reference, I’m impressed with your time management skills! It’s one of the big internet trends right now, and the corn song is stuck in my head way too often.)

And then there’s this one, but I’m just way too attached to it to risk it selling during the show! Usually I can let go of a painting after it’s hung on my walls for a little while, but this one is likely going to live with us for a long time still. (We affectionately refer to it is ‘The Forbidden Corndogs’, but it’s formal name is “Headwinds” and it was painted during the Eagle Plein Air Festival.)

So now for the big reveal: What painting did I actually send down to Utah for the show??

Umbra

Which means ‘Shadow’ or ‘Darkness’

This painting was done as a Nocturne, meaning I painted the entire thing 100% outdoors at night. I love the way you can feel the cold, dark, autumn air next to the pond where these cattails were growing near my house. It has all the umbra/autumn/spooky/halloween feels to me.

If you’re in Utah this October, go check out the show and send me a picture next to my painting! It will make my whole day! (and be the perfect birthday gift to me)
