Eagle Plein Air Festival 2021

For years, I have watched the Eagle Plein Air Festival and attended their festival celebration and art sale. I’ve always wanted to participate, but haven’t had the opportunity to do so until this year 🎉

My main painting - Headwinds

(Oh also, did I mention we took home THIRD PLACE ACRYLIC?! I was so stoked out of my mind)

Back in July, my husband and I started talking about the festival seriously; I was trying to decide if it was a realistic goal for the year, or if I was in over my head trying to participate in a week long event with an 8 month old baby. Being the ever supporting husband and optimist that he is, he reassured me that we would find a way to make this happen.

If not now, when?

So I signed up and watched some YouTube (trying to figure out what to expect painting outside!)

Here are some of resources I loved:

- The most ASMR Plein Air instruction you will ever find

- My new role model, sharing some quick tips

- And the most true to life experience painting a nocturne.

From the quick draw, to the daily art demos, to the field work and end of week celebration, it could not have been run more wonderfully. The crew from The Gallery at Finer Frames is top notch, and pulled off a fantastic event.

The week of the festival was truly amazing for me; I will cherish this memory for years to come, and am excited to share more about it in coming posts!

My nocturne - Umbra

I will also be forever grateful to:

My husband (and his employer) who took half days all week to come play with our baby while we were in the field,

Our mothers, who took turns keeping the little one busy while I was at the daily art demos (these were an absolute highlight. So much talent and instruction from our community!)

My husband and dad for helping me build the frames for these two paintings! I could have figured it out on my own, but I sure am grateful to them for teaching me how to use some new power tools and making the process easy!

And the rest of our family who showed up and helped out in lots of ways to make this week possible for me.

Eventually, I may become one of the minimalists who sets out to paint, but that stage of life certainly hasn’t come for me yet! My little band were the best to have around during this ‘family event,’ and we’re looking forward to next year!
